With Cinco de Mayo right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about Margaritas! This year, ditch the standard Marg and go for something a little different – a Coin Style Margarita.
A Coin Margarita is made with tequila, fresh lime juice, triple sec or Cointreau, and a sweet and sour mix. To get that perfect coin-shaped rim on your glass, simply run a wedge of lime around the edge of your glass and then dip it in salt.
To make your Coin Margarita, simply combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into your prepared glass and enjoy!

Choose the right tequila
Tequila is the key ingredient in any Margarita, so it’s important to choose a good quality tequila that you enjoy. We recommend using a reposado or añejo tequila for your Coin Margarita.
Pick your poison
For the Triple Sec or Cointreau, we recommend using Cointreau. It’s got a great orange flavor that pairs well with lime juice and tequila.
Make it sweet or sour
The perfect Margarita is all about balance. If you like your drinks on the sweeter side, use more of the sweet and sour mix. If you prefer your drinks on the tart side, cut back on the sweet and sour mix and add a little extra lime juice.
Shake it up
Once you’ve got all your ingredients, simply combine them in a shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into your prepared glass and enjoy!

Use fresh lime juice
Fresh lime juice is key in any Margarita. It gives the drink that tart, refreshing flavor that we all love. If you don’t have fresh limes on hand, you can use bottled lime juice, but it won’t be quite the same.
Add triple sec or Cointreau
Triple sec or Cointreau is a must in any Margarita. It adds sweetness and depth of flavor to the drink. We recommend using Cointreau, but feel free to use your favorite triple sec.
To get that perfect coin-shaped rim on your glass, simply run a wedge of lime around the edge of your glass and then dip it in salt.
Use a sweet and sour mix or make your own
You can use a store-bought sweet and sour mix for your Coin Margarita. To make your own, simply combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and then add fresh lemon juice and lime juice to taste. Let the mixture cool completely before using.
If you want to make a truly unique Margarita, try muddling fruit, herbs, or spices into the mix. You can also rim your glass with chili powder or Tajin for a little extra spice.
For a classic Margarita, be sure to use fresh lime juice and salt the rim of your glass.
